Moving water doesn’t. Mosquitos breed in standing water, which is exactly why we default to pondless designs with continuous circulation. If you prefer an open pond, biological filters and fish-safe larvicide rings keep breeding at zero, and koi ponds are usually problem-free since the fish eat the larvae.

Pondless designs are built to be kid-safe — there’s no open water, just a stream disappearing into a gravel bed, and kids can play in it directly. For koi ponds we can add secure grates or fencing per city code, and we’ll walk through the options on your site visit.

Every feature we build ships with a winter plan. Pondless designs typically just shut off — water drains back into the reservoir and the pump comes inside for the season. Koi ponds either run with a heater to keep a gas-exchange hole open, or the fish move to an indoor tank for winter.

Pondless: top off water every 2-4 weeks in summer, clean the skimmer monthly, clear leaves in fall — that’s it. Koi ponds run 2-3 hours a week during the active season plus fall and spring cleanings. We also offer seasonal service if you’d rather not handle it yourself.

Sound is tunable. More height and flow means louder; less height spread over stone means a softer gurgle. On the install walkthrough we adjust stone positions with you until it’s exactly what you want — from a subtle background trickle to something you can hear from the kitchen.
